DeKalb-Area Activists Rallying To Support U.S. Postal Service

Progressive advocacy group REACT is holding rallies over the next three weeks in DeKalb to raise support for the U.S. Postal Service.

The Postal Service risks going bankrupt by September without federal support. REACT is encouraging the passage of the HEROES Act in the U.S. Senate, which would provide $25 billion in funds. Activist Cynthia De Seife says they have to limit rally attendance to 10 people each as a result of coronavirus.

“So we have to be really careful about how many people get together and how we behave when we’re out in public. So we’re doing three rallies, two of them in our regular rally spot on Peace Corner, and then the third one on Route 23 in front of Hopkins Park.”

The first two rallies at the downtown location De Seife referred to will be held on Fridays, and the third at the city park on a Saturday. De Seife is encouraging those who can’t participate in the rallies to stop by regardless to show their support. She believes the postal service is particularly important this year for the success of the 2020 census and mail-in voting for the presidential election.
