The Next Picture Show is once again proud to host the Plein Air Painting Show, sponsored by the Rock River Valley Painters Guild. En plein air, or plein-air painting, is the act of painting outdoors with the artist's subject in full view.
In conjunction, The Next Picture Show will also host Stories in Portraits, also sponsored by the Rock River Valley Painters Guild. This is an all-media exhibition of both 2-D and 3-D original work.
Both exhibitions run Oct. 22-Nov.15. Both are juried shows. A reception and awards presentation will be held Oct. 24, 6-8 p.m.

Chris Scott is the President of our local Engineering Technology College that is ranked the #1 two-year school in the Midwest for return on investment. We will meet on the campus at 701 Portland Ave., Morrison, Il 61270 for this presentation that begins at the usual time of 2:00 p.m.
The Whiteside Forum, established in 1985, is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit community group which sponsors presentations and discussions of issues of importance and interest to the public. Issues chosen for conferences have an international dimension as well as local interest and importance. The organization is supported entirely by individual, special and business contributions and all events are free and open to the public.
Jim Piela is a saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator who deftly walks the fine line between order and chaos as a jazz musician. Known for his captivating live performances and ability to seamlessly blend traditional jazz elements with pop, funk, and electronic, Jim is a sought-after performer in New York’s vibrant jazz scene. “I’m always thrilled to come home to the midwest and share my music. Jazz is all about connection, and I’m excited to bring my personal take on the genre to new listeners and reunite with audiences that watched me grow as a performer.”

Are you curious about the ancient art of tarot but don't know where to start? Join us for an enlightening and beginner-friendly presentation designed to demystify the cards and unlock your inner wisdom.
Local tarot reader and poet, Annie Hex, will guide you through the fundamentals of tarot in a welcoming and supportive environment. This program is for anyone who wants to learn more about the deck's structure, the meaning behind the cards, and how to use them as a tool for self-discovery and personal reflection.
Registration is not required. This program is intended for adults.

Young children are invited to join our Halloween Parade through the Children’s Department, with a few stops at various points to “trick-or-treat.” Come in costume and join the parade!
