The NIU Board of Trustees is considering Acting President Dr. Lisa Freeman for the university’s permanent president. They are seeking feedback from the university community before making a decision.
Trustees will attend listening sessions throughout August with faculty, students, alumni, and other community leaders. The schedule for the listening sessions is as follows:
August 2: Operating Staff Council
August 2: Alumni & Foundation Boards
August 14: Senior Roundtable
August 14: Chairs/Directors/First-line Supervisors
August 16: SPS Council
August 16: DeKalb and Sycamore Mayors & City Managers
August 29: Council of Deans
August 29: Presidential Commissions
August 29: Student Leaders
September 5: Faculty Senate
Freeman will attend an open forum on Thursday Aug. 30. During the forum, she will discuss her vision for the future of the university. Time will be allotted for questions and answers. The forum will be recorded, and those who cannot attend will be able to access the recording online.
A survey will also be available online following the forum to collect additional feedback. Information about Lisa Freeman and the presidential search is also available online.
The board will meet in September, when they are expected to decide whether to approve Freeman as permanent president or to pursue other search avenues. Other search avenues may include a national search.
