New Prosecutor Takes Charge In Mongan Boating Case

Wikimedia Commons

David Neal has been chosen as a new prosecutor to handle the case against Marc Mongan, who was charged with the death of Megan Wells after his fishing boat collided with a pontoon boat near Oregon, Ill. The impact threw Wells into the water and killed her.

For this act, Mongan was charged with boating under the influence and reckless operation of a watercraft.

The Rockford Register Star reports that Ogle County State’s Attorney Eric Morrow backed away from the case because Wells’s family worried that Morrow and Mongan had social ties, particularly their shared membership in the Tebala Shrine Temple.

New prosecutor Neal will announce whether he’s pursuing felony charges against Mongan on Oct. 4.
