Perspective: The Wisdom Of Chocolate

I’ve been indulging in Valentine’s candy. I tell myself I need solace from the very contentious, chaotic, and crazy events swirling around these days. My flavor of the day is Dove dark chocolate -- which is good for you, isn’t it? But did you know that the mini Doves give you messages? One Dove wrapper told me, “Your vibe attracts your tribe.” Almost as good as a Chinese fortune cookie!

Here’s another, “When life isn’t going right, go left.” Well, I’ve been going left for a lot of years, and it has yet to make things right!

I’ve been trying to act on one Dove suggestion. “Smiles are free, so share them.” When a child, parent, student, senior catches my eye on a sidewalk or in a grocery store or a busy coffee shop, I just grin. Try it and see what happens.

Some Dove messages are serious challenges. “Be fearlessly authentic.” Well, if Mitt Romney – who has waffled on many issues as a senator – can claim a fearless, authentic self, maybe it’s possible for me.

I’m adding one Dove challenge to my meditation breathing practices. “Inhale the future; exhale the past.” It helps me let go of thought distractions that limit being calm and present in the moment. Exhaling the past reminds me that I can’t influence what has happened and breathing in the future challenges me to take responsible action toward what could change.

Happy chocolate Valentine’s Day!

I’mConnie Seraphine, and that is my Perspective.
