The Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board on Tuesday officially certified a union for support staff at Rock Valley College.
Workers filed paperwork in April with the board indicating the staff’s desire to form a union.
Around 140 RVC support staff join the new Rock Valley College Support Staff Association, a local chapter of the Illinois Federation of Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers.
Dane Youngblood, a purchasing assistant at the College, says in the announcement of the certification that the Staff Association looks forward to working with college leadership and having a voice on issues that impact the campus and the surrounding community.
