WNIJ’s Gas Price Monday: Dec. 7, 2015

For the second week in a row, gas prices in some Illinois communities are below $2 per gallon of unleaded.

According to AAA, a gallon of regular gas in the Rockford area costs $1.89 on average. That’s seven cents less than last week and about 80 cents less than last year.

Chicago prices are at $2.25 per gallon. That's a nickel less than a week ago and almost 90 cents less than a year ago.

The state average is $1.97 per gallon. That’s two cents more than last week but 80 cents cheaper than it was last year.

On average, the cheapest gas in the state is in Danville. It’s priced at $1.67 per gallon of regular unleaded gas, which is two cents more than the cheapest gas in the state last week.

The national average is $2.03, which is a penny less than last week.

The state with the highest gas price average is Hawaii at $2.79 per gallon, which is three cents less than last week. Missouri has the lowest average price at $1.81 per gallon.
