The current school year is barely half-finished, but the Rockford School District is seeking youngsters to enroll in kindergarten and sign up for the Montessori pre-kindergarten program lottery for Fall 2015.
Incoming kindergartners must turn 5 and pre-kindergarten students must turn 4 on or before
Sept. 1, 2015, to be eligible.
Parents/guardians applying for the Montessori pre-k lottery must complete an application and attend a mandatory orientation at Maria Montessori School. The lottery will be held after the close of registrations in February.
A certified birth certificate for the child, the parent/guardian’s photo ID, and two acceptable proofs of residency/address are required. Acceptable forms include a utility bill dated within the last month, mortgage papers, signed and dated lease with proof of last month’s payment, or a current Department of Human Services medical card.
Enrollment is available at these sites between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.:
- Wednesday, Dec. 3 -- Dennis Early Childhood Center, 730 Lincoln Park Blvd., Rockford
- Thursday, Dec. 4 -- Summerdale Early Childhood Center, 3320 Glenwood Ave., Rockford
- Monday, Dec. 8 -- Rolling Green Elementary School, 3615 West Gate Parkway, Rockford
- Tuesday, Dec. 9 -- Riverdahl Elementary School, 3520 Kishwaukee St., Rockford
Enrollment also can be completed at these Head Start sites between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.:
- Wednesday, Dec. 10 -- Fairgrounds Valley, 902 Acorn St., Rockford
- Thursday, Dec. 11 -- Orton Keyes, 653 Ranger St., Rockford

Parents who cannot attend an early enrollment event should complete the process at the Student Assignment Center between Jan. 12 and Feb. 6. The center is open each week from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
