Alabama Story
Alabama Story
Artists' Ensemble Theater of Rockford presents the drama "Alabama Story" by Kenneth Jones, based on a true story, Thursdays-Sundays, March 20-April 6, 2025.
In 1959 a children’s book was the center of a battle between a State Senator and a no-nonsense Librarian
in Montgomery, Alabama. Meanwhile, the reunion of two childhood friends — an African-American man and a woman of white privilege — provides a private counterpoint to the public events swirling in the state
capital.
“At a time when intolerance is on the upswing and empathy is under siege, ALABAMA STORY is just the play we need.” — The St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The production is directed by AET producing artistic director Richard Raether and features Katie
Maringer, David A. Gingerich, Russell Konstans, Laura Paruzynski, Malachi Goldsmith and Ben Bonzi.
Alabama Story will be performed March 20-April 6 in the Cheek Theatre inside the Clark Arts Center at
Rockford University. Performances are Thursday–Saturday at 7:30, with added matinees at 4:00 on
Saturday and 2:00 on Sunday.
Thursday tickets are $19. All other performances are $28 for adults, and $10 for students. Tickets may be
