State Sen. Bill Brady, R-Bloomington has been a candidate for higher office several times and once was the GOP nominee for governor. He naturally was considered an early contender to replace U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock, who resigned amid scandal.
But Brady quickly bowed out of that race and suggested that his brother -- homebuilder Ed Brady -- would be a good candidate.
Ed Brady said he'd spent three weeks traveling the district, and found a sincere interest from voters in a contested primary. But, he says, given the election's short time span, it's best for voters that the Republican party stay united.
To that end, Brady has endorsed GOP front runner, State Sen. Darin LaHood, who's from near Peoria.
Illinois has to hold a special election for the 18th Congressional district since Schock resigned amid an ethics scandal at the end of last month.
