Perspective: You Are What You Eat

In the arsenal of what keeps us alive, food comes to the top of the list, right next to water and oxygen. Thankfully, we all have choices. Another new exciting choice is coming to McHenry County: The Food Shed Co-op, owned and operated by its owner/members. Food Shed will offer a significant percentage of products from local vendors.

Here’s the thing though: Owner-operated means us -- you and I.

I have been a Food Shed member from the beginning.

My $200 membership entitled me to hang in there while the volunteers found a place to build our store. Now with newly acquired property on Route 14, it’s time to go to the next level.

Food Shed is only as strong as its member owners. I encourage everyone to check out the website, www.foodshed.coop

Own your own little piece of the Food Shed Coop.

Food Shed provides alternatives in the food stream. Really though, what I love the most -- the co-op directors are my neighbors, the volunteers are my friends.

They care about the planet, the food and the world around us.

Food Shed is dedicated to bringing its members and citizens of northern Illinois a healthy and wholesome way to nourish our bodies while nourishing our souls. When you’re a Food Shed member, you’re supporting local small farmers.

What’s that line, “If you build it they will come?” Let’s try this: “When they build the Food Shed Coop, we will all come.” Its been said before and I’ll say it again: Seriously, you are what you eat.

I’m Lou Ness and that’s my perspective.
