Perspective: Stepping Out Of The Circling

Waiting for the stay-at-home order to lift is getting hard. We are in so many ways stuck and stagnant.

The other day I found myself walking in circles around the house. I didn’t know what to do with myself. There was plenty I could do. But I'd already done so much of that. I had no motivation; I had no direction, just aimless, anxious energy. I needed relief. Some sort of distraction.

In the midst of waiting, so much change is happening that I can’t keep up with reality or the possibilities that my reality will become. I cannot make clear predictions or preparations. So, I circle, waiting, for clarity. Waiting to know what tomorrow holds.

Waiting to act. But the waiting is getting hard.

When something gets hard, we can ignore it or we can do something. Doing something different can boggle the mind and be too much. Maybe it’s simply the next single decision that needs to be different. One step different, nothing overwhelming. Just take one step out of the circle.

So I step away from my circling.

That one step allows a different perspective. I move toward the door and transition to a new moment. Another step outside and the sun appears, the birds scatter, the wind clears the air. It’s a moment to take a big breath and move forward -- even when we don’t know what the whole picture will be.

We can take one step. We can indeed.

I’m Elsa Gloverand that’s my perspective.
