Ever since the age of six, I’ve known that I wanted to pursue a career in journalism. I know you’re thinking, how is that even possible, well, let me explain.
Growing up, my parents and I lived with my grandmother for a bit, and every day after kindergarten, we would watch television together. While Thomas and Friends was our go-to show, my grandmother would occasionally switch the channel to catch the 4 p.m. newscast on ABC7. Hosea Sanders and Judy Hsu would sit behind that big round desk and deliver the latest news stories of the day. I was barely able to comprehend anything they were saying, but it didn’t matter, because I was so intrigued by the anchors, the graphics, and how the entire newscast came together. This is what ignited my passion for journalism and desire to become a news anchor.
Fast forward to 2025, I’m a junior at NIU, majoring in communication with a minor in journalism, working towards my dream of joining ABC7, the very station I grew up watching. My dream is within reach and it’s soon to become my reality. This may sound cliché, but hear me out: No dream is too big or too small. Your dream is perfect for you. I’m just one of millions pursuing dreams, and if I can do it, so can you!
I’ll leave you with a quote often attributed to the great Eleanor Roosevelt:“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
I’m Amarion Weathersby and that’s my perspective.
