Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey will run for reelection next spring. A formal announcement is expected later this month.
The mayor's campaign posted on its websitethat a campaign kickoff event will be held September 27th in downtown Rockford. The statement says petition packets will be handed out to supporters.
Morrissey, who's an Independent, was first elected mayor in 2005 when he defeated incumbent Doug Scott.
Morrissey won't be the first person to announce their candidacy for the spring election. Former Rockford alderman and Winnebago County Board member Jim Hughes announced back in June that he'll run for mayor. Hughes is a Democrat.
