Temperatures are taking a sharp drop this week, and it’s affecting public services and charities.
- The Keep Illinois Beautiful Rockford Recycling Center is closed today due to predicted wind chill below zero. Their policy is to close the facility whenever air temperature or wind chill goes negative.
- Sycamore's Voluntary Action Center is closing its community kitchen today due to emergency replacement of a broken furnace, according to the Daily-Chronicle. Meals On Wheels lunches at DeKalb's Taylor Street plaza are also canceled for the day. However, Meals on Wheels remains active today in Boone, Ogle, and Winnebago Counties.
The National Weather Service says snow is likely Friday afternoon, and it could continue through Saturday.
