WNIJ's Gas Price Monday: February 1, 2016

For the most part, gas prices across the state are below $2 per gallon.

According to AAA, a gallon of regular gas in the Rockford area costs $1.66 on average. That’s six cents less than last week and about 40 cents less than last year.

Chicago prices are at $2 per gallon. That's eight cents less than last week and about 39 cents less than a year ago.

The state average is $1.67 per gallon. That’s seven cents less than last week and 48 cents cheaper than it was last year.

On average, the cheapest gas in the state is in Danville. It’s priced at $1.52 per gallon of regular unleaded gas, which is about seven cents less than the cheapest gas in the state last week.

The national average is $1.79, which is three cents less last week and about 26 cents less than last year.The state with the highest gas price average is Hawaii at $2.63 per gallon, which is about the same as last week. Oklahoma has the lowest average price at $1.48 per gallon.
