Democratic Representative from Chicago introduces a bill that would prevent a state funding cutoff for child care providers in Illinois.
Last week, the Illinois Department of Human Services sent letters to providers, informing them that the agency has run out of funding for the subsidy program. The agency said that might not change until the new fiscal year that begins July 1.
The sponsor of the funding bill says the money would come from unspent general revenue funds in the current budget. A spokeswoman for Governor Pat Quinn said he would sign the measure if it passes.
