Agents Search NIU Police Department

Mike Moen

The campus police department at Northern Illinois University received a visit from the FBI Wednesday. Officials say they were executing a search warrant.

Illinois State Police Spokeswoman Monique Bond says there was no threat of danger on campus.  She says various state and local law enforcement officials were there as part of a criminal investigation, but she decline to comment more specifically.

She says officers would remain on campus Wednesday, and no definitive timetable has been set as to when officers will wrap up the investigation.

While the search was being executed, there were reports of heavy law enforcement activity along Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb. City police referred any questions to State Police officials. Those officials did not acknowledge any firm connection between the two situations.

Meanwhile, an FBI press release says no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed with respect to the investigation.

The probe includes Illinois State Police, the U.S. Department of Education's
Office of Inspector General and Housing and Urban Development Office of
Inspector General.

University officials say they are fully cooperating with authorities.

NIU spokesman Brad Hoey read this statement outside the campus police department:
