Rock Valley College's Board of Trustees announced Tuesday that they appointed Acting President Beth Young as the school's interim president.
Young was delegated the position of acting president by outgoing President Dr. Doug Jensen on March 30. Young had served as the college's chief operating officer (COO) since Dec. 2019. She will continue to perform the duties of COO along with those of interim president until a new permanent president is hired.
In 2016, Young was Chief Financial Officer for RVC before becoming COO. Prior to coming to RVC, Young was Dean of Business Affairs at Kishwaukee College. She had also taught high school math in Burbank, California and Sycamore, Illinois.
RVC Board President Patrick Murphy praised Young for her work overseeing the college's budget and all of its operations in recent months. He said her experience will be invaluable as the college tries to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic while searching for a new president.
Dr. Jensen had served as RVC President since October, 2016. He is moving on to become President of Bismarck State College in North Dakota effective July 1. As part of his separation agreement with RVC, the college will pay him an amount equal to his compensation as president, minus certain deductions, through June 30.
