Heated Debate Between 8th Congressional Candidates

Northern Illinois Republican Joe Walsh and his Democratic opponent Tammy Duckworth are squaring off in one of the nation's most closely watched congressional races. On Tuesday night, a debate between the two candidates underscored the tension between the two campaigns.

The debate was held in the Chicago suburb of Rolling Meadows. The Chicago Tribune reportsWalsh and Duckworth traded barbs for two hours. The topics included the future of Medicare and partisan gridlock in Washington.

Meanwhile, the Sun Times reports there were plenty of whistling, booing and screaming fans. The report also says the crowded room became increasingly raucous as the candidates took shots at each other.

The Daily Herald also says the crowd played a major role in the debate.

The candidates will debate one more time on October 18th on WTTW.
