The U.S House of Representatives voted today on the HEROES Act.

This relief package consists of about $3 trillion in aid related to the coronavirus. Representative Cheri Bustos of Illinois said nearly a third of the bill offers help for state and local entities.

“So I would say the component that will be the most impactful will be what we are doing for our local towns, including the smallest towns in our congressional district and the biggest towns in our congressional district," she said.

She said the bill may face opposition in the Senate.

“We made the decision despite not having support from across the aisle, or at least very wide support from across the aisle, that we were going to move on this because we understand the sense of urgency.”

The House also voted on a measure that would allow members to vote by proxy during the pandemic.
