It’s National Apprenticeship Week.
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is encouraging residents to consider apprenticeship programs if they’re searching for a new job. Julio Rodriguez is Deputy Director of the Office of Employment and Training. He said apprenticeships are useful in getting direct work experience.
“The employer actually hires the person right then and there," he said, "and really, the training is happening simultaneously as the person is actually working.”
The DCEO is encouraging companies to collaborate in creating these opportunities.
“The idea is that the sector comes together," said Rodriguez, "identifying what it’s needs are, and really beginning to work with those institutions and providers to help build that talent.”
Career fairs and networking events are planned around the state this week.
