Sauk Valley-area activists Wednesday encouraged 16th District U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger to take part in a public forum.
Members of the group Action For A Better Tomorrow assembled in Dixon and traveled to Kinzinger’s District Office in Ottawa.
On arrival, they presented a petition with more than 700 signatures inviting the Republican incumbent to take part in a forum with his Democratic opponent, Rockford attorney Sara Dady.
Group leader Sarah Bingaman says that, in the past, Kinzinger noted a willingness to participate in public debate but had not received a formal invitation.
“We wanted to assure that his staff knew, that we are serious about this," she said. "We want a congenial community forum. We wanted the staff to see that we are reasonable people and we sincerely hope that he will come and participate in a community forum.”
Action For A Better Tomorrow sent the same petition to Sara Dady and, if both accept, the public forum would take place July 30. Both candidates previously took part in a radio debate May 14 but have yet to appear together in a public forum.
