DeKalb School Board To Discuss HVAC Solution

The DeKalb School Board will discuss an HVAC plan for Lincoln Elementary School at today’s meeting.

Lincoln is the only school in the district without air conditioning, and it was closed twice in September due to extreme heat. The principal says classroom temperatures reached as high as 105 degrees. TheDaily Chronicle reportsthe HVAC project would replace the boiler and add a chiller.

The project was  introduced to the board earlier this year, but was postponed due to budget constraints. If approved, it would cost about $1.3 million in total, including asbestos abatement.

According to school documents, $1,260,000 of the total cost would be funded through the Life and Safety Budget, and the remaining balance of about $60,000 would be funded by the Operations and Maintenance Budget.

The agenda item is informational, so it's not likely that action will be taken at tonight’s board meeting. That begins at 7 p.m. in DeKalb's Education Center.
