DeKalb City Council Approves Second Pappas Development Project

pappasdevelopment.com

The DeKalb City Council approved a second downtown redevelopment project last night.

Council members voted 5-1 in favor of "Plaza DeKalb," which would create a four-story apartment complex and retail space approximately one block away from the "Cornerstone" project currently under development.

The Daily Chronicle reports that developer John Pappas wants the city to provide $1.9 million in tax increment financing, which is about 31% of the project's estimated cost.

Properties at 203, 223 and 229 E. Lincoln Highway will be renovated to create the facility, while the former Carter's Cottage building at 209 E. Lincoln Highway will be demolished. Despite the approval, there is concern over parking space for the new building's inhabitants.
