It’s now open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Insurance is urging people to go to the state’s marketplace. There are more than 140 health insurance plans available this year.
Brian Gorman is the director of outreach and consumer education for Get Covered Illinois. He says consumers should compare prices.
“The important thing that folks need to know is that they need to shop around," he said. "Everybody’s household is different whether they had a plan last year or this year. Plans have changed. Your household circumstances change. Your financial tax credit may have changed.”
The last day for the general public to enroll is December 15th. After that consumers will not be able to purchase coverage on the marketplace unless they have a qualifying life event. That includes getting married, becoming a new parent or losing health care coverage.
