NIU Cares Day is currently looking for more host sites for volunteers. With an expected 900 participants, the program is looking for 15 to 20 more locations. Jen Van Ewyk is the Assistant Director of Volunteerism for NIU. She says any programs or residents are welcome to apply.
“We’ll accept any nonprofit organizations or community agencies," Van Ewyk said. "We also take requests from local residents. In the past, we’ve also had some schools that have reached out.”
NIU Cares Day has been helping the DeKalb area for more than a decade with students eager to help those in their college community. This year, it will take place April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. Those seeking volunteers are asked to apply through the NIU Cares Day website.
