Great Lakes Basin Transportation Response Submitted Last Month After STB Decision

Great Lakes Basin Transportation, Inc.

Great Lakes Basin Transportation, Inc. filed a response last month regarding its proposed railroad project. That’s after the Surface Transportation Board requested additional information about the railway.

The board said in its June 2 decision that it needed more specific information about cities and counties the railroad would run through. GLBT said in its June 22 response that the proposed line would not go through populated areas of incorporated cities, which would include Rochelle and Rockford.

The proposed line would go through Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana, bypassing Chicago rail traffic.

Many local governments in Illinois have passed resolutions against the railroad. The state General Assembly adopted a resolution against the project last week.

It is unclear when further decisions from the board will be announced. Surface Transportation Board officials say they are not able to comment on cases in progress.
