Gov. Pritzker Hopes to Lift Mask Mandate for the Holidays

Could the upcoming holiday season be mask-free in Illinois?

Governor J-B Pritzker says he's hopeful the state's indoor mask mandate can be lifted by then.

The daily new case rate has been falling in recent weeks, as have hospitalizations. The governor says this may lead to nixing “certain mask mandates.”

"We have three holidays coming up, but especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, where people spend extended amounts of time together. So, we'd like very much to get to a place where we can remove certain mask mandates."

At latest count, there were more than 2,000 new COVID cases and 21 additional deaths. 63.4% of Illinoisans age 12 and up are now fully vaccinated.
