Concealed Carry Ruling Won't Be Reconsidered

A federal appeals court is refusing to reconsider a ruling  that says Illinois' concealed carry ban is unconstitutional.

Back in December, a three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals struck down Illinois' ban. The court then gave lawmakers until June 8 to draft a law that would allow residents to carry a concealed firearm.

The request for a second review came from state Attorney General Lisa Madigan. She asked for all 10 judges to review the decision, saying it conflicted with decisions by other federal appellate courts and goes beyond what the U.S. Supreme Court has held.

Illinois is the only state in the nation that still has a ban in place.

Gun-rights advocates have argued the prohibition violates the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment. In the December ruling, Judge Richard Posner agreed, saying there's nothing to suggest crime in Illinois is different enough to justify its ban.
