"Who Cares": Stories From Family Caregivers

If you aren't a caregiver now, there's a good chance you'll become one. This week on Free Range Radio: "Who Cares," from Capital Public Radio.

An estimated 66,000,000 adults make up the backbone of America's long-term care system. There are nursing homes, convalescent hospitals, and in-home services to take care of the country's aging population. But the most common resource for long-term care is the family. One in three adults in the U.S. is caring for a chronically ill or aged loved one at home. But who cares for the caregivers? Without recognition and support, this backbone is at risk of breaking.

This hour-long documentary follows three caregiving families, so we can understand the challenges they face, the stress they endure, and the power of family.

For more emotional and inspirational stories from caregivers, check out "Caregivers Speak." Listeners shared their own experiences in this multi-media project from Capital Public Media.
