Fat Doesn't Mean Unhealthy: Exploring Fat Studies And Body Politics | Teachers' Lounge Podcast

On a new Teachers’ Lounge, Dr. Laurie Cooper Stoll: sociology professor at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She’s also an author who studies social inequalities, gendered violence and fat studies -- which is primarily what we talked about on this episode. She also has a website and blog she runs with a colleague, Dr. Darci Thoune, called “Two Fat Professors” where they fight fatphobia with education, community building and, as they say, a LOT of sass.

As she says -- we all have bodies -- so whenever we discuss topics like this, it’s incredibly personal. She talks with Peter so much in this episode about how we’re trained as a society to view our bodies and to view other people as well. It’s so personal, and Dr. Cooper Stoll says it’s remarkable how much we can learn by analyzing and critiquing those systems. We go in-depth on her work with fat studies, fatphobia, diet culture and much more.
