Christmas tree drop-off dates vary by township.
Lora Petrak, with the McHenry County Conservation District, urges people to recycle trees instead of throwing them in the trash.
"They biodegrade at a much slower rate when they’re in a landfill, as opposed to being mulched, or even used as a windbreak, or left to decay on its own," she said.
Petrak reminds people to remove ornaments, tinsel, and bags before dropping off trees. She says mulch will be available for pick-up in early spring.
