More Staff Cuts To Rauner's Administration Reported

Brian Mackey

Crain’s Chicago Business is reporting that four more advisers to Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner are out Friday.

It marks the end of a week in which there’s been big turnover in Rauner’s office.

Rauner has a new chief of staff and a few other top advisory positions in his office who come from the hard-line advocacy group Illinois Policy Institute, which has a legal arm that’s sued over same day voter registration and union work rules.

Rauner was asked if the change in staff had anything to do with the legislature overriding his budget veto after a two year impasse.

"I don’t know where all this baloney comes from," Rauner said. "We should focus on what’s right for the people of Illinois. We are always trying to recruit and retain the best people in America to serve the people of Illinois. That’s all that matters."

The staffing changes come in the middle of negotiations over a new school funding formula; that could prevent schools from receiving state aid if no deal is reached by next month.
