National Weather Service issues Winter Storm Warning for Northern Illinois

Severe Weather, Warnings In Northern Illinois

According to the National Weather Service, a tornado warning is in effect for LaSalle County until 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

A severe thunderstorm warning is also in effect for Northeastern DeKalb County, Southwestern Lake County, Kane County, Northwestern DuPage County, Southern McHenry County, and Northwestern Cook County until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.  

The National Weather Service says debris can be life-threatening to people without shelter. It encourages people to take cover immediately.

A confirmed tornado was located near Toluca, 15 miles southwest of Streator, was spotted at 5:46 p.m.

At 5:34 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Washburn, moving east at 45 mph.

At 5:17 p.m., a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado was located north of Morris, moving east at 45 mph.

At 4:55 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along the line of Polo to Sterling, moving east at 50 mph. There is a hazard of 70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

At 4:50 p.m., a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado was located over Ottawa. Another confirmed tornado was spotted northeast of Standard around 4:30 p.m.

A tornado watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. for north central Illinois.
