Duckworth And Kirk Meet For Post-Election 'Sandwich Summit'

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (L) and Tammy Duckworth

Illinois U.S. Senator-elect Tammy Duckworth met Friday with Mark Kirk in an attempt to show there’s no ill will after their bruising campaign.

Kirk and Duckworth met at Manny’s Deli in Chicago.

There was no giant corned beef sandwich ... just coffee for Kirk and water for Duckworth.

The two made chit chat for a while with the cameras rolling, and Kirk said he got a new dog on Election Day.

"Sweet Pea is what we’re going to call her now," he said.

"OK, that’s cute!" Duckworth responded. "That’s cute, that’s cute."

"Thanks for doing this," Kirk said. "I think this is a good tradition to start."

Duckworth then asked Kirk if he’d press Republican Senate leadership to give Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland a hearing.
