Kye, a golden retriever, is one of two comfort dogs owned by Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere.
He joined other service dogs from a handful of states this week to help the Orlando community.
Sue Tiske is a staff member at the church. She says the dogs bring a simple sense of comfort to those who are grieving.
“They do not judge people. They are there just to listen and just bring comfort and love to people," Tiske said.
"It helps with their grieving process. It helps them feel a little more happy. And actually, you’ll see smiles when the dogs are there."
At this point, Tiske says Kye will stay in Florida until Sunday.
