WNIJ’s Gas Price Monday: Dec. 14, 2015

For the most part, gas prices remain below $2 per gallon of unleaded.

According to AAA, a gallon of regular gas in the Rockford area costs $1.98 on average. That’s 10 cents more than last week and about 70 cents less than last year.

Chicago prices are at $2.27 per gallon. That's two cents more than a week ago and almost 70 cents less than a year ago.

The state average is $2.01 per gallon. That’s four cents more than last week but 60 cents cheaper than it was last year.

On average, the cheapest gas in the state is in Decatur. It’s priced at $1.69 per gallon of regular unleaded gas, which is two cents more than the cheapest gas in the state last week.

The national average is $2.01, which is two cents less than last week and about 50 cents less than last year.

The state with the highest gas price average is Hawaii at $2.75 per gallon, which is four cents less than last week. Missouri has the lowest average price at $1.79 per gallon.
