One Incumbent Democrat Loses Legislature Seat; Two Others Squeak In

Incumbent Democratic Sen. Mike Jacobs lost his 36th District seat to Republican challenger Neil Anderson, and Democratic State Reps. Frank Mautino (District 76) and Mike Smiddy (District 71) barely won tight battles to retain their seats.

There are 23 races for the Illinois Legislature on the ballot in northern Illinois, but 13 of them are uncontested. The 10 contested races include one for State Senate and nine for the State House.
