Proposal Would Allow Recording Devices In Nursing Homes

Office of the Illinois Attorney General

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is supporting a proposal to allow audio and visual monitoring in nursing homes.

The proposed legislation would allow nursing home residents or their families to place recording devices in their rooms. The devices are meant to ensure care by monitoring for abuse or neglect.

Five states currently allow for electronic monitoring in nursing home rooms.

Illinois has more than 100,000 nursing home residents located in over 1,200 facilities.
