Illinois high school coaches and athletic directors now must take a training course on preventing and recognizing concussions.
Governor Pat Quinn signed the legislation today. The online course must be taken every two years. The goal is to reduce and prevent concussions among student-athletes.
“While we want to ensure all children have the opportunity to play sports, we must also protect the health of our young athletes from potentially life-changing damage," said Governor Quinn in theofficial press release. "This new law will help ensure that coaches will be better prepared to address and prevent concussions among their student athletes.”
