U.S. Rep. Bill Foster says he'll vote for the Iran nuclear deal after reviewing the scientific details of the pact.
The Naperville Democrat says he felt a special responsibility to study the accord because he's the only scientist in Congress. Foster is a physicist who worked for 22 years on a particle accelerator at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in suburban Chicago.
Foster said Tuesday that he's confident after many briefings with experts that the deal is the best way to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
His announcement comes as Democrats clinched the crucial Senate votes to block passage of a disapproval resolution against the accord.
Foster says if the U.S. rejects the deal, there's little hope of getting Iran and other coalition members to restart negotiations.
