NIU Signs Guaranteed Admission Agreement With College Of DuPage

NIU Today

Northern Illinois University and the College of DuPage recently signed a guaranteed admission agreement.

It allows students at the College of DuPage with at least a 2.0 grade point average guaranteed admission to NIU so they can pursue 4-year degrees.  High achievers (at least a 3.5 GPA) can also gain admission to the Honors Program.

NIU Provost Lisa Freeman believes aspects of community colleges and four-year universities can blend together. She says the agreement is a recognition of this fact.

“We can work together to provide good experiential learning or research experiences for students over the summers, whether they’re community college students, NIU students, or a combination of both.”

The agreement also builds upon previous cooperation with the College of DuPage on applied technology programs.  College Vice President of Academic Affairs Emmanuel Awuah says the agreement greatly expands the choice of programs.

"We’ve created a pathway for these students to get into specific majors," he says.  "I think it helps create that bridge for students to know for sure that they can cross over to NIU right when they start at College of DuPage."

CDP students can qualify for the program once they've completed their general education requirements and earned at least 24 credits.
