Elgin Master Chorale performs The Ordering of Moses by R. Nathaniel Dett
On Saturday, April 15, the Elgin Master Chorale (EMC) performs Dett’s Magnum Opus, The Ordering of Moses featuring the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. Sense the stirring emotion as Moses leads the Israelites to freedom through Dett’s use of dynamic orchestral colors, impassioned solos and dramatic choral numbers. Listen for the three spirituals interwoven into the musical structure of Moses: “Go Down, Moses”, “When Moses Smote the Water”, and “He is King of Kings”. R. Nathaniel Dett, a Black Canadian-American composer, recognized the importance of spirituals as the core of Black folk music and wrote his arrangements in a Western European classical style.
EMC is a cultural cornerstone of Elgin and the Fox Valley creating a thrilling, emotional experience for audiences at each performance by achieving an overall level of excellence in singing, presentation, and production. Comprised of approximately 85 adult singers who share a passion for choral masterworks and other fine repertoires, EMC believes that great music comes from people of all backgrounds and cultural experiences and has the power to connect and unite.
