SIUC student killed in Astroworld tragedy

Published reports say an SIU Carbondale student was among those killed when a crowd rushed the stage at the Astroworld Festival in Texas last week.

The student is identified as Jacob Jurinek, a junior in Journalism at SIU. Jurinek was from Naperville, and was reportedly at the concert with a childhood friend who also died.

Eight people were killed in the tragedy at the concert in Houston Friday night. Authorities are still investigating exactly what happened, but many witnesses say the crowd rushed the stage and many people were trapped and trampled.

A vigil for Jurinek is planned in the Faner Plaza on the SIUC campus Monday night at 7:00pm.
