Family and friends of SIU-C student Keshanna Jackson held a candlelight vigil Sunday night after the freshman was shot and killed early Sunday morning in Carbondale.

Around 200 Southern Illinois University Carbondale students and community members turned out Sunday night for a candlelight vigil to honor the memory of a SIU-C freshman who was shot and killed early Sunday morning just north of the campus.

Freshman Keshanna Jackson of Chicago was shot at a party at 501 West Cherry Street and later died from her injuries at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Her childhood friend, Koran Snulligan said while he's devastated at her loss, he wants people to celebrate Keshanna's life.

Father Joseph Brown, Professor in the Department of Africana Studies at SIU-C, said let her memory be for a blessing.

Additional remembrances are being planned in Keshanna's memory for Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in Carbondale.

The Carbondale Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in the shooting, which also injured three others.
