A Rockford performance art theater is looking for a diverse selection of individuals to act in their upcoming plays.
Mike Werckle is the artistic director at The West Side Show Room. Werckle said those interested in being a part of "Eurydice" by Sarah Ruhl or "Peter and the Starcatcher" by Rick Elice, don’t need prior theatrical experience.
“I'm somebody who believes that everyone has a great performance in them, regardless of their experience, that they just need to be paired with the right role and work hard at it,” Werckle said.
And although "Peter and the Starcatcher" isn’t a musical, those interested in being of part of the play should come to the audition prepared to sing.
“So, if you can carry a tune, and sing 'Happy Birthday', you can probably sing the songs and 'Peter and the Starcatcher,'” Werckle explained.
He mentioned that the show room is looking for actors from all ethnicities and gender expressions. Also, a $300 stipend will be given to the selected performers.
Auditions are open to those 13 years of age and older. The first rounds take place Wednesday, Aug. 4 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again Saturday, Aug. 7 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
