Portions of the City of DeKalb are under an elevated flooding risk due to heavy rains, officials said Tuesday.
Interim Public Works Director John Laskowski said that residents should be aware of the potential for flash flooding within City limits and beyond.
The Police non-emergency dispatch number is (815) 748-8400 and should be called for after-hours inquiries.
Laskwoski said sandbags will be available at the City of DeKalb Water Department, 1216 Market starting at 6 p.m. Monday night.
Mark Espy, DeKalb Public Works assistant director, says residents can get as many bags as they need to keep the water out. He says crews were already preparing Monday afternoon for the additional water, but he says they were surprised how quickly it came down.
He says the forecast calls for more rain in the coming week.
Espy says sandbags should not be returned or re-used because of rainwater contaminants. Residents should leave them for public works personnel to dispose of.
