Community Theater Stays Active Even With Their Season Suspended

Stage Coach Players community theater formed a COVID-19 task force in April to find ways to give back to a community they say “has given so much to them.”

The task force is hosting a fabric giveaway and food drive each Tuesday at the DeKalb theater.

Jan Kuntz is a member of the task force. She says she was looking for fabric to make masks when the task force realized the theater’s inventory of cotton fabric could benefit others who were trying to do the same. Kuntz says in addition to giving out fabrics, the group has collected “at least a car full” of food each week, which they drop off at nearby food pantries.

“It’s wonderful to see people from all over coming to get fabrics and also then bringing food," she said. "So it’s not just the Stage Coach Players, it’s the community. And you know, we’re community theater, so that’s what we’re all about.”

The task force plans to continue holding the fabric giveaways and food drives each Tuesday until the pandemic is over. The events are held from 4-6 p.m. each Tuesday.
