Several Rockford public schools tested positive for lead in their drinking water.

The Register-Star reports 22 samples at seven schools had concentrations higher than the EPA standard of 15 parts per billion.  Those faucets were immediately taken out of service and are being replaced.

The affected schools are Gregory, Conklin, Haskell Year-Round Academy, Johnson, McIntosh, Carlton, and Bloom.

Testing, repairs, and replacements are expected to cost around $40,000.
